Some young defenders catch your attention because of what they do with the ball.
Others catch your attention because of how they command the game.
Yusuf Ashir is one of those players.
A left-footed defender from Kaduna, Nigeria. Yusuf combines physical strength with composure and good distribution. He understands how to occupy his space, can play out from the back and isn't afraid to take responsibility on the pitch.
But there is another quality that stands out:
Leadership.
Yusuf wears the captain's armband for his team, and at his age, that responsibility is an important part of his development.
He is still a grassroots player, still learning and stll has plenty of room to grow. That's precisely what makes this stage S interesting.
Give the right player the right environment early enough, and you don't just develop a footballer.
You develop a leader.
Yusuf Ashir is one to keep an eye on.
